Tekla Structure Issue: Prompt Payment
Hi all,
Strategies for balancing prompt payment while maintaining good client relationships can be challenging.
Here are some of my strategies that have received both push-back and acceptance from clients. These terms are built into the contract. Changes after final approvals are handled as extras and in the same manner.
1) Deliver PDF's without the ability for the client to print the file but instead only review it. We are in an electronic age and engineering and construction offices should all have PDF applications that can provide annotations (comments and markups) as well as custom stamps for shop drawing review that can be saved and submitted.
2) Do not provide 3d models or CNC files for your work until payment is received. Approved PDF files are more than enough evidence that the detailing work is ready to be released for fabrication.
3) Upon receiving payment, release printable PDF files, 3d models, reports and CNC files.
Private detailers are in many ways at the bottom of the food chain as a sub of a sub contractor and terms that are required by clients for "pay when paid" just do not fly and my advice is to steer clear of these clients.
Your feedback on running a detailing business and staying in business is greatly appreciated.
